This past weekend both Democrats and Republicans came to Indianapolis for their respective party's convention. The convention is a time for delegates to nominate and elect their candidate for three State Offices: State Auditor, Secretary of State and State Treasurer.
The Democratic Convention was fairly straightforward compared to the Republican Convention due to no contested elections. Destiny Wells is the party's candidate for Secretary of State, Jessica McClellan for State Treasurer and ZeNai Brooks for State Auditor.
The Republican party had two contested races for Secretary of State and State Treasurer. As we have previously mentioned, the Secretary of State's race between incumbent Holli Sullivan and Diego Morales reached a record high in political contributions. In the end, Morales upset Indiana State Republican Party backed Sullivan in the second round of voting. Morales will now face Democrat challenger Destiny Wells on the ballot in November. The race for State Treasurer ended with Morgan County GOP Chair Daniel Elliott edging out a victory over Boone County Council President Elise Nieshalla by just three votes. Elliott will face Democrat challenger Jessica McClellan. Current State Auditor Tera Klutz did not have an opponent at the convention and will face Democrat challenger ZeNai Brooks in November.
